Dan-Inject Dart Guns Will Attend The 43rd Annual AAZV Conference October 22 to 28, 2011

Dan-Inject Dart Guns will attend the 43rd Annual AAZV (American Association of Zoo Veterans) Conference being held October 22, 2011 through October 28, 2011 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The exhibits are open the 26th and 27th. Dan-Inject Dart Guns booth number is 703. Please come by and visit!!!

We will again be sponsoring a darting competition this year. If weather permits, it is scheduled to take place at the Kansas City Zoo on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. The Kansas City Zoo is located in the heart of historic Swope Park at 6800 Zoo Drive, Kansas City, Missouri 64132.

The competitions are important because they help sponsor the International Conference Scholarship.

2011 AZA Annual Conference in Atlanta

Dan-Inject Dart Guns will be at the AZA Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. We will be in booth 628. It will be held at the Georgia Aquarium & Zoo, September 12 to September 17, 2011.

We have taught the local hunters (native indigenous and farmers) and men on the field how to use the equipment. They used to kill the tapir, but now are able to help in their conservation. They are the ones who have darted the tapir in the photo.

The Dan-Inject pistol comes in two versions. There is the CO2 Pistol and the Foot Pump Pistol. The Nativa Foundation has chosen to use the Dan-Inject CO2 Pistol for their work. Why?

• Pistols are smaller than rifles.
• They’re easier to hide from animals. Animals seem to be aware of equipment and care must be taken to avoid spooking your subject.

Mike Ross Will Speak At The TVMA Annual Conference March 4-6, 2011 being held at the Hilton Hotel in College Station, Texas.

Mike will speak on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 8AM until 12:30PM at the A & M Veterinary College.

His talk will explain how the use of dart guns can effectively be used to apply medication and vaccination remotely.
Some of the topics covered will be:

• Basic introduction to various types of dart guns CO2 versus .22cal
• Various methods of medication/vaccination application (vehicle/on foot/helicopter etc).
• Differences in applying vaccinations whether dealing with animals in captivity or the wild.
• Darting techniques.
• Correct needle / dart sizing for the particular application and species.

This session will also include a darting demonstration of where attendees will be able to use the equipment and receive advice and tips.

Mike Ross and Mexico Capture Team With Giraffe Ready To Be Translocated

The week of February 15, 2010, Mike Ross, Owner and founder of Dan-Inject Dart Guns, was asked to assist a Mexican capture team in capturing 4 wild reticulated Giraffe that had been living on a “Private Exotic Game Ranch” in the Sonora province of Mexico.

These Giraffe needed to be caught and translocated to a new exotic game ranch in Mexico, where they would receive good care. The high value of each Giraffe required the use of Dan Inject Tranquilization equipment and a lot of capture experience. Owing to the fact that Giraffe are not easy animals to catch and translocate, the experience of Mike’s capture services were sought out by the Mexican capture team, who had previously never caught Giraffe.

As no helicopter was available for the capture, all the darting was done from the ground using the Dan-Inject JM Special 25 tranquilizer rifle.

“All of the darting shots where between 50 and 75 yards as the Giraffe would not allow us to get closer. I used my trusty JM Special 25 with the rifled extension barrel” and as usual it out performed itself.”
