With projects ranging from checking the status of humpback whales to studying the diving behavior of beaked whales and other Hawaiian odontocetes, Cascadia Research is hard at work making sure that our oceans remain hospitable to the vast variety of oceanic life.

A tool used often by Cascadia Research Collective in their work is the Dan-Inject series of tranquilizer rifles and darts.

Recently, scientists from Cascadia Research Collective used the Dan-Inject JM Special 25 to tag short-finned pilot whales, false killer whales and fin whales, among other species. These whales are being tracked by satellite through research supported by the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service and other funding agencies.

Hi Mike,

The dogs are darted as part of a long-term large carnivore study in Zambia to estimate populations and evaluate threats to their persistence. Zambia is one of a handful of countries left in Africa that are considered to have viable populations of this species.

Wild dogs are relatively small targets and are highly endangered. The DanInject guns provide the essential accuracy, reliability and low-impact shots needed for darting operations.

Mike Ross and Mexico Capture Team With Giraffe Ready To Be Translocated

The week of February 15, 2010, Mike Ross, Owner and founder of Dan-Inject Dart Guns, was asked to assist a Mexican capture team in capturing 4 wild reticulated Giraffe that had been living on a “Private Exotic Game Ranch” in the Sonora province of Mexico.

These Giraffe needed to be caught and translocated to a new exotic game ranch in Mexico, where they would receive good care. The high value of each Giraffe required the use of Dan Inject Tranquilization equipment and a lot of capture experience. Owing to the fact that Giraffe are not easy animals to catch and translocate, the experience of Mike’s capture services were sought out by the Mexican capture team, who had previously never caught Giraffe.

As no helicopter was available for the capture, all the darting was done from the ground using the Dan-Inject JM Special 25 tranquilizer rifle.

“All of the darting shots where between 50 and 75 yards as the Giraffe would not allow us to get closer. I used my trusty JM Special 25 with the rifled extension barrel” and as usual it out performed itself.”
